Oh sorry. We posted at the same time! I feel like crud. Very lethargic. I know it is working to some extent, but just not sure what to do about the SW.

Lost my signal again! If it helps adjust your window by 15 minutes (12.15) and if that works move it back to 12.30 again.

The two things I absolutely like the best about sleepio is 1) It's in my own hands. 2) The community support. You can see a therapist once a week, but the community support from people who have experienced or are experiencing the same thing as you is invaluable! And it's essentially 24/7!

Tinker bell Jane, like you I don't want to miss anything and want to make the most of the Sleepio programme. It has been interesting to learn form the experience of others with Dr Espie's comments. I have bought a special note book to keep a record of things as I go, I hope writing things down will help reinforce the positive things and give me a
'Sleep diary' to reflect on and keep the motivation going!

When I joined Sleepio after 40 years plus of chronic insomnia it was the last chance saloon for me, I had all the experts and all the medication and advice, still had insomnia. After two weeks on the programme I decided to keep to the medication and get on with SR and QHR both of which to say the least were a challenge. If the pills had been doing the business I probably wouldn't have needed Sleepio but when I realised the challenge
Sleepio posed to me I decided one step at a time, I am now dealing with the medication.
The first weeks on Sleepio were difficult, felt like quitting but I had no where else to go so kept going in spite of not seeing a result. It took me a long time to feel the improvements but it did happen, so gradually I almost missed it.
Even after graduating I had only grasps the ground rules and realised that I now had to put into practice the routine I had now adopted and it works got to now cut this short, but be patient and keep to this programme.

Hi Ally, I bought a notebook for this course too but I need to make better use of it. I am only on week one of the program.

    Holiday,

Thanks for telling your story with insomnia. That is very inspiring. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, but I fear that nothing will help me. I worry that I am the small percentage that will never find a solution and will never recover. Like you I have tried every route (prescribed meds, non prescribed, supplements, mindfulness, breathing, behavioral sleep specialist, MD sleep clinic, therapist after therapist, hypnotist, naturopath, light therapy, exercise, diet change, etc, etc.) Knowing that you have finally found the solution in sleepio is so reassuring.

I KNOW this program is working to some extent already. I am sleeping naturally for the first time in over a year. However, it is not deep all the time, it is not consistent, and I still wake too early. And worst of all I still feel like complete sludge. I will keep on keeping on.

Mushmellowstar, I know I'm a complete newbie here but someone here told me many sleepio patients/grads repeatedly recommend two books: Tired but Wired by Nerina Ramiakhan and Mindfulness: Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams. I couldn't find amazon reviews for one of them until I realized I needed to look on amazon uk.

At first I was: “I don't want to read another book” but the reviews made me re-think and I am going to get them both.

I think someone wrote that week 3 or 4 of this program is tough and before that everybody doubts it will help them in the early phases.

Thanks, Tink. One thing I can never get enough of is reassurance! PS: I was recommended those books, but as I am at university I have no desire (on my break) and time during the semester to read any other books, lol. But please let me know if you find that they work for you! I just feel deep down that what I have always needed was a “shock” to my system to get it back on track.

My insomnia stemmed from the birth of my son (whacked hormones, whacked schedule, no work, so no consistency, etc., etc.). Hopefully my body will respond well to this shock!

The thing I've heard from a few people so far regarding both this program and the books is to keep a steady pace and not expect a miracle overnight. One amazon reviewer of the mindfulness book kept updating his experience/journey over 2 years! which was actually really helpful to me. You could see that the changes took time but the results were monumental for him.

You are on week 3 I noticed and you said you already have seen some help. A baby and university studies would put me in my grave! I have some hormone issues but not from having children. They can really mess you up.

I have had several friends who went almost mental when they started birth control pills and they had to go off and use other methods of contraception. Hormones are tricky and they run everything!

One reviewer said the “Tired but Wired” book was “too upbeat” for them!!!??? Made me decide to buy it right there! It deals more with the science of sleep and is positive so maybe that one would be nicer for you at this point than the mindfulness one – sounds like you've done a lot of that type thing already.

Hope you find things that work for you. :)
